ONRSR - Rail Safety Officer
About the roleAs a Rail Safety Officer based in our Sydney office, you will lead and contribute to assigned regulatory activities including audits, site visits and compliance inspections and assess applications for accreditation and registration in accordance with the policies, procedures and business processes of ONRSR.You will also provide clear and concise written reports on regulatory activities and provide technical advice on compliance with Rail Safety National Law and other rail safety operational matters.About YouWe are looking for people who are self-motivated with a broad range of skills including those with experience and qualifications in rail or other high-risk transport sectors.In our diverse team, you should be comfortable demonstrating initiative and adopting a collaborative approach.  You will have excellent people skills, be detail oriented, comfortable with technology and able to produce easy to understand reports.You will be required to:Work on and around railway environments with a willingness to undertake field work that may be outside of normal working hours and will require some interstate and remote travel.To be successful in the role you must have:An understanding of integrated safety management systems and risk management.Sound interpersonal and verbal communication skills.Well-developed writing skills for taking notes and drafting structured reports, briefing papers, emails, etc.An ability to effectively consult, liaise and negotiate with stakeholders and rail transport operators to facilitate their cooperation and support to achieve desired outcomes.A flexibility of approach, able to make decisions and adopt work practices to meet changing work requirements and situations.The following knowledge and experience are highly desirable:Tertiary qualifications with relevance to engineering, science, safety or risk.Operational safety experience in the rail industry or other similar high-risk transport sector.Lead Assessor Quality Auditor qualification.About UsThe Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) is an independent regulatory authority that pursues safe railways for Australia by encouraging safe rail operations, enforcing national compliance with the Rail Safety National Law (RSNL), and promoting and improving rail safety across the country.ONRSR strives to be a visible player in the rail industry, respected for conducting value-adding interactions that are informed by a strategic combination of industry intelligence, knowledge of operations, and use of rail safety data.
